Caol Ila 12 Year Old

Color: Light ginger,
Nose: Subtle peat smoke, battery acid
Body: Life is easy
Palate: Slow starter, peat builds on the tongue. Primary flavors shine.
Finish: The pay off. Long, smooth and a different favor.

Engineer: If Festivus is the holiday for the rest of us, then 12 year old Coal Ila is an approachable Islay Scotch that is perfect just the way it is. It is easy to drink straight, but a cube allows salty sweeter flavors to come out. Not over powering. If you like heavy, look elsewhere.
Poet: If you're not sipping slowly, you might be in trouble. This is serious Scotch, so briny, it begs to be sipped in the bath tub. And while the engineer's opinion is generally infallible, I find the Caol Illa to be heavy enough to sink into the hollow of the throat and slowly burn away. Delicious, but heavy indeed.
